A celebration for apples
Come stay in the colorful mountains of Chattanooga for a weekend of reveling in all-things apples: via shared meals, an apple orchard tour, apple picking, cooking and baking, and more.
Since late May, I’ve had the pleasure of becoming immersed in the food-scape of Middle Tennessee. Beginning a job as a regenerative farmer, I have been furthering my learning of compassionate food-producing practices amid a cohort of passionate, nature and food-loving individuals. Together, we’ve been seeding, weeding, harvesting, and tending, and have been up to our ears in heirloom tomatoes, summer squash, variegated eggplant, sugar baby watermelons, and beyond. As we transition from summer to fall, and as apples have incited their season, I can’t help my excitement for the fruit we may crisply enjoy in the upcoming months. And I can’t think of a better way to indulge this excitement than to enjoy this fruit with others.
Come and enjoy fall, and fall’s apples, in the mountains of Tennessee!
You are warmly invited to stay at our family cabin home outside of Chattanooga, Tennessee September 29th through October 1st. Here, we can gather for a nourishing weekend amid the fall foliage centered around all things apples. We will learn about the beloved practice of growing apples, interspersed with sharing meals, cooking and baking together, and enjoying the peace of nature. Our apple education will take form through touring our nearest sustainable apple orchard, Wheeler’s Orchard, and experientially learning how to plant and care for apple trees as we do so here at our home. There will also be downtime for whatever is needed, such as sipping apple cider, napping, or roaming in the woods. If you would like to take part, please check out this form with the proposed schedule and registration (the form will close once we’ve filled our capacity for accommodations). The suggested donation for the weekend is $30 ($15 toward the farm tour and $15 toward groceries). I hope to see you there! If you have any questions, feel free to email me at intereatingblog@gmail.com.

This month’s book club read is by the beloved Tallu Schuyler-Quinn, founder of the Nashville Food Project. Her book, What We Wish Were True: Reflections on Nurturing Life and Facing Death, details her grappling with terminal illness and is filled with touching chapters which showcase her reverence for life in all it’s mundaneness. Her love of food, specifically the modes of growing/cooking/and sharing, is weaved throughout the chapters, and with the closeness of death she uniquely elucidates the powers of food in furthering empowerment, unity, intimacy, and beyond. Her book can be enjoyed short chapter at a time, or even indulged in the course of a day. We will meet via Google Meet the last Sunday of August, August 26th, at 6pm EST to virtually commune and discuss.
What a lovely, welcoming invitation to experience apples within intentional community! Anna Smith, you truly walk your talk. Your kind, sharing way of living out your inner truth is my great inspiration. Thank you.
